The sixth Dundee &
Angus Congress was held 16th – 16th
October, again at the David Lloyd Leisure
Centre, Monifieth and was sponsored by Open
Seas Engineering Ltd. Once again reduced-price
use of the gym and pool facilities and a
reduced price lunch menu were on offer at the
venue.
Entries were down
again, to 116 from 125 last year – a
reasonable number given the current financial
climate but it meant having to trim back the
prize fund and will mean dropping the
Challengers next year unless we can find some
external funding.
The event had an
interesting mix, including players originating
from Slovakia, Romania, Malaysia, Germany and
Nigeria. Three entrants travelled from London,
Nottingham and Yorkshire and recent regular
Gunnar Jacob was joined by his parents –
Helmut in the Open and Barbara in the
Challengers.
The top
tournament, the Open Seas Engineering Open,
contained 12 rated players rated 2000+, and no
GMs this year made it more than usually
competitive.
